Magdalene

Magdalene is in a great location, situated on both sides of Magdelene Street, right next to the river - meaning there's the opportunity for loads of gorgeous photos like the one above! It's also next to lots of restaurants on pubs just along the river, and further along Magdalene Street.

Magdalene's an average sized college, admitted just over 100 undergraduates a year. All year groups live within college, mixed together - a rather unusual practice in Cambridge. I've only been around Magdalene accommodation long ago on an open day, but I remember it being somewhat disappointing - rather old, steep staircases, and not in great condition... and these were presumably the better rooms! This is reflected in the price though, with few rents being much above £80 per week. Also if you prefer living somewhere with a bit of character rather than somewhere new and boring, you could view this as a good thing.

During term time meals are available three times a day in the cafeteria in Ramsay Hall, and there's also Formal Hall held every night, for the bargain price of £3.95! On top of that there are four Superhalls per term, which are more expensive, lavish Formals.

Magdalene has an OK bar, puts on bops which Magdalene students presumably enjoy, and a few nice added features such as several music rooms, a well-equipped weights room, a squash court, and college punts.

All in all, Magdalene is a good college. It's well located, has some nice features, but doesn't really stand out for anything. Ooh, except for it's rather Raucous men's drinking society, The Wyverns. They throw possibly the biggest Suicide Sunday garden party, a party so wild and crazy that it was recently reported in all the major newspapers, due to a certain incident... Who said Cambridge wasn't fun, eh?
